Product introduction：

Tween-20 is also known as Polysorbate-20, also known as polyethoxy-laurate cooling tea alcohol. The invention relates to a non-ionic surfactant of the Tweens class derived from sorbitan esters, easily miscible in water.

Tween (or polysorbate) is a non-ionic surfactant formed by sorbitol and different higher fatty acids. Smelly, slightly bitter. Generally pale yellow to amber thick liquid, but depending on molecular weight differences vary. Ph: About 6-8(5%)

According to the ester formed by different advanced fatty acids, Tween is divided into 20,40,60,80 and other kinds, according to different needs to choose. Commonly used are Twain 20(Tween-20), Twain 21(Tween-21), Twain 40(Tween-40), Twain 60(Tween-60), Twain 61(Tween-61), Twain 80(Tween 80), Twain 81(Tween-81), Tween 85(Tween-85).

Tween 60 is a stearate; Tween 80 is oleate; Tween 20 is a laurate, which is a mixture of polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate and a part of polyoxyethylene double sorbitan monolaurate.

Use/Application：

Non-ionic surfactant. Water soluble emulsifier. Gas chromatographic fixative. Separation and analysis of volatile oil, fatty acid ester, alcohol, copper, halide.

Widely used in biochemical research, including:

1) An emulsifier for the preparation of a stable water-in-oil emulsion, especially used in the pharmaceutical industry;

2) In the membrane binding protein extraction experiment, the peripheral protein is usually removed at 2% concentration;

3) In immunological experiments based on membrane detection, the concentration of 0.05% is often used as a blocking agent;

4) It can also be used to lyse mammalian cells at a concentration of 0.005~0.5%.

Main applications:

1.Tween and the same type of Triton 100(polyethylene glycol octylphenyl ether) non-ionic detergent can emulsify proteins in biological experiments, without destroying the structure of proteins, and can reduce the destruction of the original interaction between proteins. Ionic detergents such as SDS destroy the protein structure.

2. As a blocking agent in biological experiments, it blocks all unbound sites without replacing the target protein on the membrane, does not bind to the site of the target protein, and does not cross-react with antibodies or detection reagents. Tween-20 has the effect of binding antigen, which can improve the ability of specific recognition. When western blot is done, the non-specific binding of the antibody can be reduced by blocking the unbound site on the membrane with an inert protein or non-ionic stain remover. The most common sealers are BSA, skim milk powder, casein, gelatin, and Tween-20 (0.05-0.1%) dilute solution.

3. Often used as oil-in-water (O/W) emulsifier to disperse other substances evenly in solution, mainly used in pesticides, food, cosmetics. The Tween 20 is a bit milder and the Twain 80 is a bit more emulsifying.

Precaution：

1. This product is not recommended to autoclave, it is recommended to filter with 0.22μm filter membrane to remove bacteria. It may be necessary to heat the Tween-20 to 40℃ and replace part of the Tween-20 with hot water before removing bacteria from the filter.
