Novel oral broad-spectrum antibacterial drugs. The antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of sulfanilamide drugs, but the efficacy is stronger, and it is effective against a variety of gram-positive and negative bacteria. Because the bacteria will easily develop resistance to this product, it is not suitable for use as an antimicrobial drug alone. The combination of trimethoprim and sulfanilamide can enhance the antibacterial effect several times to tens of times. The product is mainly used as a synergist of sulfonamide drugs. It is generally used in a ratio of 1:5. It can also be used as a veterinary drug to treat septicemia, white dysentery, typhoid fever, cholera, secondary bacterial infection of respiratory system caused by coliform bacteria in poultry. It can also be used in the treatment of coccidiosis.

Use and synthesis method:
Scientific research reagent, widely used in molecular biology, pharmacology and other scientific research. Trimethoprim (TMP) is a bacteriostatic agent, a lipophilic weak base, and its chemical structure belongs to pyrimidine. It has antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus Mirabilis, Salmonella and Shigella, but has no obvious antibacterial effect on Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria gonorrhoea and Neisseria meningitidis, and no effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The mechanism of action of this product is to interfere with folate metabolism of bacteria. Mainly selectively inhibits the activity of dihydrofolate reductase in bacteria, so that dihydrofolate cannot be reduced to tetrahydrofolate, and synthetic folate is the main component of nucleic acid biosynthesis, so this product prevents the synthesis of bacterial nucleic acid and protein, and the combination of this product and bacterial dihydrofolate reductase is 50,000 to 60,000 times closer than that of mammalian enzymes. The combination of this product and sulfanilamide drug can double block the folate anabolic metabolism of bacteria, have a synergistic effect, enhance the antibacterial activity of sulfanilamide drug, and can turn the antibacterial effect into a bactericidal effect, reduce the generation of drug-resistant strains.
