Polymyxin B is an antibiotic. It has an inhibitory effect on many negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella and Haemophilus, and is also sensitive to other antibiotic resistant strains. However, due to its severe renal toxicity and nerve blocking effect, it is only used for short-term rescue of burns combined with sepsis, or for local spray irrigation for external use.
