Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid with 22 carbon atoms and 6 double bonds, with the first double bond occurring at the methyl terminal at three locations (n-3 at 22:06). DHA is a component of the lipid membrane and myelin sheath. DHA also acts as a precursor to signaling molecules such as prostaglandins and eicosanoids.
