Product introduction:
Oil Red O is an oil soluble azo dye that is easily soluble in benzene, soluble in ethanol (light yellow red) and acetone, and appears light blue-green in concentrated sulfuric acid. When diluted, it produces a blue purple precipitate. Oil red O is used for lipid and lipoprotein staining in starch gel electrophoresis and as fat staining agent in microscopy.
Product Usage:
Oil red O is a strong lipid solvent and stain that can specifically stain neutral triglycerides, lipids, and lipoproteins in tissues and cells. When tissue slices are inserted into the dye solution, the dye leaves the dye solution and dissolves in lipids (such as lipid droplets) within the tissue, causing the lipid droplets inside the tissue to turn red. Used to analyze the lipid status in cell samples. The Oil Red O staining method, due to its better observability and deeper staining, has widely replaced other lipid staining methods, such as the Sudan III staining method.
