Ethephon is a plant growth regulator that promotes maturation. "It enters the plant through the leaves, bark, fruit, or seeds of the plant, and then transmits to the site of action." It can promote the formation of adventitious roots, thick stems, dwarf plants, release dormancy, induce flowering, control flower organ sex differentiation, accelerate fruit ripening, promote senescence and abscission.
