Aza-dibenzocycloocta-cyanine dye derivatives are versatile labeling reagents that are often used to detect molecules or compounds containing azides. Cyclooctenes can be used to promote the cupr-free azide-alkyne cycloaddition. This dibenzocyclooctene will react with compounds or biomolecules containing azide functional groups, and no Cu2+ catalyst is required to generate a stable triazole bond. Because it does not contain metal ion catalyst, it will not cause cytotoxicity and is suitable for in vivo application of bioorthogonal chemistry or bioorthogonal click chemistry. In addition, dbco-Cy3-3 and dbco-Cy5-3 have better water solubility than conventional DBCO-Cy3 and DBCO-Cy5.
