5(6)-Carboxyfluorescein is a compound used to label nucleotides/nucleic acids. Carboxyfluorescein (often referred to as FAM) and its amine reactive succinimide are preferred over FITC in biological binding. The carboxyamide produced by FAM is more resistant to hydrolysis. In addition, FAM has lower requirements on conjugation conditions, higher conjugation yield and better stability. Fitc-labeled nucleotides and peptides are more susceptible to denaturation than the corresponding FAM conjugate.
