DASPEI is a styrene-based dye that stains the mitochondria of living cells. The dye has a large fluorescent Stokes shift and is absorbed relatively slowly as a function of the film. DASPEI is also used to locate different types of sensory cells. In Vivo, DASPEI has been reported to stain entire larvae in a relatively non-specific manner.
