Carboxyfluorescein (commonly referred to as FAM) and its amine reactive succinimide ester are superior to FITC in bioconjugation. FAM reagent made formamide more resistant to hydrolysis. In addition, the conjugation condition of FAM reagent is simple, but the conjugation yield is high, and the resulting conjugation has excellent stability. Fitc-labeled nucleotides and peptides tend to degrade faster than the corresponding FAM couplings. In general, FAM reagents can be used to replace FITC reagents in most biological applications.
