Griffonia (Bandeiraea) Simplicifolia Lectin II is a dimeric glycoprotein consisting of two nearly equally sized subunits, each with a disulfide bonding chain and a binding site for an alpha - or β-linked n-acetylglucosamine residue. Unlike other N-acetylglucosamine specific lectins, increasing the number of N-acetylglucosamine residues to more than two does not increase affinity. GSL II is reported to be unique in its ability to recognize only α-or β-linked N-acetylglucosamine residues at the non-reducing ends of oligosaccharides. Biotinylated GSL II has the right amount of biotin to provide optimal staining properties for this lectin. The conjugated compound contains essentially no unconjugated biotin and is preserved with sodium azide
