Phasebean lectins are the name of a family of lectins, each consisting of four subunits. There are two different types of subunits. One appears to be primarily involved in erythrocyte agglutination and is designated as the E subunit (erythrocyte agglutinin). Another type is involved in lymphocyte agglutination and mitotic activity and is known as the L subunit (leukocyte lectin).
