Nonionic surfactants has very low surface tension and excellent wetting and spreading properties. It can be used in water-based systems to wet difficult-to-infiltrate substrates, and also has the functions of auxiliary penetration, leveling, fast drying, anti-fogging and antistatic.
S-16 is one of the few surfactants that can wet polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) surfaces. Soluble in water and a variety of organic solvents. This surfactant is very useful in the development of solid-phase whole blood diagnostic reagents, as bias is susceptible to high hematocrit resistance. S16 is the only surfactant that has been tested to eliminate this deviation. It interferes with antierythrocytes by its intense action on the surface of the anti-erythrocyte test plate. The surfactant is completely hemolytic, typically used at concentrations ranging from 0.05 to 1%, with a recommended dosage of 0.1% for the initial test.
