Strigolactones, phytohormones or their precursors discovered in recent years, are able to inhibit the growth of branches and lateral shoots of plants, which cooperate with auxin and cytokinin to control the number of branches (w/w). As a carotenoid derivative derived from plant roots, unicornurolactone can promote the symbiotic interactions between plants and soil microorganisms. In addition, it also acts as a signal molecule during the interaction between plants and parasitic plants, which can induce seed germination of parasitic plants such as Striga spp. And Orobanche spp.
