Anthocyanins are used in a variety of biological applications，including comparative genomic hybridization and gene chips. Depending on the structure，they cover both the visible spectrum and infrared wavelengths. Cy3，Cy5 and Cy7 are popular cyanine dyes，especially Cy3 and Cy5 are commonly used for 2 color detection. The Cy3 dye fluoresces yellow-green (ex/em = 550/570)，while Cy5 fluoresces in the red region (ex/em = 650/670 nm). This non-sulfonated cyanine is insoluble in water and is mainly used to label oligonucleotides，peptides，and other small molecules. Cy5NS has the same chemical and spectroscopic properties as Quasar670 (Biosearch).
