Gibberellin is a plant growth hormone that can promote the growth of stems and leaves, bolting and flowering early, promote germination of seeds, tubers and roots, stimulate fruit growth, increase fruiting rate or form seedless fruits. Potato, tomato, rice, wheat, cotton, soybean, pea, tobacco, fruit trees and so on have the effect of increasing yield. However, if too much gibberellin is applied, the plants will have yellow and elongated branches, which will lose green and grow idle, which will affect the yield. Gibberellins are also used to make malt from barley. It also promotes the development of insects.
Soluble in alcohols, ketones, esters and other organic solvents and pH 6.3 phosphate buffer solution, insoluble in ether, chloroform, benzene and water. It forms salts with potassium and sodium ions and dissolves in water. The solid of GA is relatively stable, and it will not fail for a long time when stored in dry and closed conditions. Water solution is unstable, short-term storage at low temperature does not cause failure, high temperature decomposition faster; Acidic or weakly acidic conditions were more stable, while alkaline conditions were unstable.
