5-CR6G maleimide is a thiol-reactive derivative of rhodamine 6G. For some complex biological applications (where material cost is more critical than reproducibility)，it is the choice (better than mixed isomers) because small positional differences between 5-CR6G and 6-CR6G may significantly affect some of the biological properties of the basal conjugate. Rhodamine 6G is one of the bright rhodamine dyes，but most rhodamine 6G dyes have much lower solubility than other rhodamine dyes.
