6-ROX is primarily used as a reference dye for PCR detection. However，6-ROX is very unstable compared to other rhodamine dyes. 6-ROXtra，on the other hand，greatly improves stability and water solubility，and has almost the same spectral characteristics as 6-ROX. The 6-ROXtra dye is stable for several weeks at room temperature，making this fluorescent dye an excellent alternative to the 6-ROX PCR reference dye.
