Although sulfonylrhodamine 101 acyl chloride (also known as TexasRed) is a commonly used sulfonyl chloride labeling reagent,it is very unstable in water, especially when reacting with aliphatic amines at high pH. In addition,TexasRed's labeling efficiency is extremely low compared to the dye succinimidyl ester. SunRed SE is a succinimidyl ester. It is an alternative to Texas Red. SunRed reacts with amine compounds such as amino acids, peptides, and proteins to give a very stable bright red fluorescent conjugate. Compared to TexasRed,SunRed has a higher labeling efficiency, and the resulting conjugates are more fluorescent and water-soluble than the corresponding TexasRed conjugates. SunRed's conjugates have the same excitation and emission wavelengths as TexasRed. The study showed that SunRed was more stable than TexasRed under the same labeling conditions. It is useful for labeling hydrophobic peptides, making fluorescent conjugates easier to purify and more soluble in water.
