EDANS sodium salt has better water solubility than EDANS acid，and it is one of the commonly used probes for the development of FRET-based nucleic acid probes (e.g.，molecular beacons) and protease substrates. EDANS often form a pair of probes with DABCYL or DRET substrates composed of DABSYL. It produces fluorescence that is sensitive to the environment.
