dBBr is a popular thiol-reactive fluorescent probe and is also widely used for the detection of thiol-containing biomolecules，such as glutathione in cells. Its fluorescent matrix reacts with thiol-containing biomolecules，and dBBr is a unique fluorescent matrix crosslinking reagent for proteins because it does not fluoresce until all groups have been alkylated. dBBr has been used as a thiol cross-linking of myosin，heme，E. coli lactose-permeating enzyme and mitochondrial ATPase. dBBr has also been used as a probe to induce mutations at two adjacent cysteine sites of ArsA and ATPase，enabling actin，heme and P-glycoprotein to be cross-linked via thiols.
