Lycium barbarum extract had the effect of anti-oxidation and delaying aging. It could significantly inhibit the production of lipid peroxide (LPO) in liver homogenate of mice, and increase the activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) in blood and SOD in red blood cells. The results of human experiment showed that the serum LPO production was inhibited and the activity of GSH-PX was increased, but RBC-SOD activity was not increased. Lycium barbarum polysaccharide can effectively resist free radical peroxidation and reverse the damaged membrane electrical function. It has the effect of regulating lipid metabolism. It also has a significant protective effect on ccl4-induced liver lipid peroxidation injury in mice. Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) significantly shortened the developmental period from egg to pupae and from egg to adult, and significantly increased the average life span of both mice and Drosophila. Lycium barbarum can increase the content of hydroxyproline in the skin of mice, significantly increase the ability of mice to tolerate hypoxia, prolong their swimming time, and resist fatigue.
