Product introduction
Separation, counting and confirmatory test of Coliforms in water by filter membrane method
Principle
Pepeptone as a basic nutrient to provide nitrogen source and other nutrients required for general bacterial growth; Lactose as a fermentable carbohydrate; Agar as a coagulant; Sodium sulfite and fuchsin could inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria. Lactose-fermented bacteria produce acetaldehyde, which combines with sodium sulfite to form red colonies in the presence of basic fuchsin, bacteria that ferrate lactose rapidly produce a metallic sheen, and bacteria that do not ferrate lactose form colorless and transparent colonies.
