phosphate buffered solution (PBS) provides a relatively stable ionic environment and pH buffering ability. It is a buffer salt solution often used in biology for molecular cloning and cell culture. With a pH of 7.4, it is isotonic with human blood. The main components are potassium dihydrogen phosphate, disodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride and potassium chloride.
