Application of hemocyanin: Hemocyanin is a free blue respiratory pigment found in the hemolymph of certain mollusks and arthropods (spiders and beetles). Hemocyanin contains two copper ions directly connected to the polypeptide chain, which is similar to hemoglobin containing iron. It is easy to bind and dissociate with oxygen. It is the only known copper protein that can reversibly bind with oxygen. The amount of hemocyanin in arthropods is higher than that in mollusks. It has oxygen carrying function, antiviral activity, antibacterial activity and coagulation function. It is widely used in biological activity measurement, immunological research, blocking hemocyanin antibody.
