Determination of Significance:
Any of various disaccharides derived from the condensation of the semiacetal hydroxyl group of one molecule of glucose with the semiacetal hydroxyl group of one molecule of fructose. Sucrose has a sweet taste and is found almost universally in the leaves, flowers, stems, seeds and fruits of plants. It is abundant in sugar cane, sugar beet and maple juice.
