Background | This is amino acids 54 to 65 fragment of hirudin, a 65-residue peptide. Hirudin is found in the saliva of the leech Hirudo medicinalis. The unsulfated peptide corresponding to the C-terminal of hirudin has demonstrated efficacy in inhibiting clot formation in vitro. This hirudin fragment (desulfated) causes contraction of canine coronary arteries which is attenuated by calcium-channel blockers. |
