Product Introduction:
Lipofuscin is a tawny pigment with a granular appearance, consisting of fat-containing residues with lysosomal digests, and is thought to be produced by the oxidation of lipids and lipoproteins. The oxidation process is slow and occurs gradually, so the pigment exhibits different staining reactions, different colors, and variations in shape and size. Lipofuscin is seen in the liver, kidney, heart muscle, adrenal glands, nerve cells and ganglion cells. They are mainly found around the nucleus of cells.
This kit uses the Gomori aldehyde magenta method, which stains lipofuscin to a purplish red color. The method can also be used to stain b-cells in the pancreas, pituitary gland, sulfated mucin in elastic fibers, and master cells of the stomach.
