Product Introduction:
Melanin is a non-hematogenous endogenous pigment, a group of pigments ranging in color from light brown to black produced by melanoblasts. This pigment is usually found in the epidermis of the skin, the eyes, the substantia nigra of the brain, and hair follicles. Many methods can be used to identify melanin and melanin-producing cells, such as reduction methods: the Masson-Fontana silver technique and the Schmorl trivalent iron-potassium ferricyanide reduction assay, enzymes (e.g., the dopa reaction), fluorimetry, and immunohistochemistry.
This kit uses the ferrous sulfate method, and after staining, the melanin is dark blue-green and the nuclei are red.
