Product Introduction:
Neuron, also known as nerve cell, is the basic unit of the structure and function of the nervous system. A cell with a long synapse (axon) consisting of a cell body and a cell process. The long axons are covered with a sheath that forms nerve fibers, and the small branches at their ends are called nerve endings. There are many staining methods for neurons and nerve fibers, mainly silver plating staining, tar violet staining, etc.
Improved silver plating method (Bielschowsky method) is a typical silver plating method. The basic principle of Bielschowsky method is that the fixed tissue and sections are impregnated with silver solution and then treated with reducing agent to precipitate silver particles in the axoplasma of axons and make them dark brown or black. After silver plating, many interlaced filaments could be seen in the cytoplasm of neurons and extended into dendrites and axons. Bielschowsky staining is often used in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of some nervous system tumors. This staining method is positive for neurofibromas and ganglionic neurofibromas, but negative for schwannomas.
